As most family law attorneys can attest, qualified domestic relations orders (QDROs) are a necessary — yet complex — part of nearly every divorce. From the various ways pension plans can be divided, to tax penalties on 401Ks and IRAs, to the differences between defined contribution, defined balance and cash balance plans, the intricacies of QDROs are tricky at best – even more so during the emotional upheaval of a family in distress.
